About sVYASA - USA
SVYASA-USA
was established in 1999 with the assistance of Dr.
H. R. Nagendra, Dr. R. Nagarathna,
and Mr. N. V. Raghuram of Swami Vivekananda
Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Research Foundation), known as sVYASA, in Bangalore,
India.
This was following visits over a number of years from these yoga experts during which time there were classes, lectures and other activities. A number of Houstonians wanted to make the benefits of yoga as taught at sVYASA's Bangalore center available to more local residents.
In agreement with sVYASA-Bangalore, the Houston Center was established and incorporated in 1999 as a non-profit organization. Mr. Ramesh Bhutada, a local businessman, was the founding president and served until 2002. Dr. Sudha Rajan, a family physician who has been involved since its inception, has become president of the organization.
At the time
of the establishment of the Houston Center, plans were also made for an instructor
to be based in Houston for both general and therapeutic yoga. Classes taught
by Mr. B. S. Rama Rao began in April 1999 and have since expanded with the arrival
of Mrs. Meera Rama Rao.
